Is this the right paediatric course for you?

This one-day course suits people caring for children in lower-ratio or non-EYFS settings, and anyone who simply wants emergency paediatric skills. If you work in an Ofsted-registered early years setting and need to be counted in EYFS staff ratios, you'll need the full 2-day Level 3 Paediatric First Aid course instead. Who should attend

Nannies and babysitters, childminding assistants, after-school and holiday-club staff, sports and activity coaches, foster carers, grandparents and parents — anyone who looks after children and wants to be ready for an emergency. No experience needed.

What you'll learn

What to expect on the day

A single, practical, hands-on day in a relaxed and supportive setting. Using infant and child manikins, you'll practise CPR, choking response and casualty care through realistic scenarios, with plenty of time to ask questions. It's beginner-friendly and confidence-building — you'll leave knowing you could act in a real emergency.

By the end of the course you'll be able to

Respond calmly to a child or baby in difficulty; perform infant and child CPR and use a defibrillator; deal with choking; manage bleeding, burns and minor injuries; and recognise and respond to febrile convulsions and allergic reactions.

Assessment & certificate

Practical, continuous assessment by your trainer — no written exam. You'll receive the FAIB-accredited Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for three years.

On-site training

We deliver this on site across Leeds and West Yorkshire for groups (up to 12) — handy for activity clubs, sports organisations and childcare teams. Call for a group quote.

Your training is led by Martin Sanders — a serving Leeds firefighter and qualified Casualty Care Instructor who brings real front-line emergency experience to every session. Alongside his FAA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work, Martin holds recognised teaching and assessing qualifications, so you learn life-saving skills from someone who both uses them in the field and knows how to teach them. All first aid certificates are valid for three years.

What's the difference between this and the Level 3 Paediatric course?

This one-day course covers paediatric emergencies and suits lower-ratio/non-EYFS roles, nannies and parents. The 2-day Level 3 is the full qualification required for EYFS early years staff ratios.

Absolutely — it's popular with parents and grandparents, and no experience is needed.
